Today was an interesting day. We traveled to Carriage Hill Park. Carriage Hill is an old farm from the 19th century that has been kept well and became a park. Today, it showcases the old summerhouses, blacksmith and workshop buildings, and even an old cemetery. Hearing about this place and especially the cemetery, I was a little nervous about going. I sometimes get scared easily by old places like Carriage Hill. Once we arrived, my group and I wanted to immediately go to the cemetery. So, we headed that way. Along the trail to get to the cemetery were the main buildings and barn.

There, we saw many farm animals as well as a blacksmith working on some pieces of metal. After a few wrong turns, we finally made it to the cemetery. It was not as creepy as I had thought. The gravestones were pretty intact and they were surrounded by limestone walls that stood a few feet tall. On our way back, there was a bridge across a creek that we had to go over. If we wanted to, we could go into the creek. I decided to and the water was cold and refreshing. As we went further down, we saw a snake and decided to turn back. After lunch, my friends decided to spook us a little at the bridge (all they did was say boo. It was a little lack-luster). Many antics occurred at the old farm, but it helped make my experience more exciting.

While walking down the path I wondered how being on a farm could help you live deliberately. I then realized that when you have a purpose and a way to explore the world around you, you are able to live life in a different way. I also realized that you didn’t have to live a tough farm-like life to live deliberately. As long as you know why you are doing what you are doing and you have purpose, living deliberately comes easily. I am very excited for our last trip to Delco Park tomorrow. Hopefully I can fully understand what living deliberately is after this final trip.
Included below is the narrative writing piece of the day:
Early Mornings
Another day begins as the sun rises. Looking out onto the soft golden grounds, I see some of my owners tending to the fields. They do this every morning. Sometimes, they even wake me up and take me out to ride me so they don’t have to walk. Behind me, I can feel my dark mane flying up with the wind. I decide to start walking around the field, stretching out my limbs in the pale morning light. The dewy grass flicks past my hooves. I walk for a few minutes longer, enjoying the early morning.
Soon, I hear shuffling and the opening of a door. I’m taken back into the barn and a saddle is put on my back. The saddles aren’t extremely uncomfortable, but I do prefer them off. Suddenly my back feels as if a large weight has been placed on it. I’m used to this by now. The rider beckons me to move forward at a slow trot. I head out of the pen I was once in and head out to the fields. Soon enough, the rider has asked me with a kick in the ribs to speed up my pace. I start running through the grassy hills. Time goes on and, before I know it, I’m standing at the edge of a creek flowing with clear water. The rider allows me to dip my head down and take a well-needed drink. The water is fresh, as always, and tastes better than the last time I was here. The pressing weight once on my back has been lifted. I look around and see the familiar wall of trees on the other side of a bridge that crosses the creek. The sun has now lifted the water off of the wet grass that we stand on. Nothing can compare to the serene beauty of the woods surrounding me. I wonder when we will return to my own field of green and gold. But for now, I am going to enjoy this wondrous sight of nature at its best.
