Kayaking Trip: Day 4

Writer's picture: Camryn VCamryn V

Day 4 was by far my favorite day so far; we went kayaking at Bellbrook Canoe Rental. I have been kayaking before, so I was really excited to go. On our way, I thought about the TED Talk that we had watched earlier about listening and how I could apply it to our upcoming trip. I thought about just drifting on the water. Soon the bus stopped and we headed to another bus where we traveled to the drop-off spot at the Narrows. I picked out a rainbow tie-dye kayak and was eager to get in the water.

Once everyone was in, we soon spotted a rope swing that some people wanted to jump off of. I was not wanting to jump, but I went to go help out my friends anyway. While doing so, people tipped and soon realized how icy the water was. After that had ended, I got caught up with my friends and we continued down the river. We took time to not paddle, but just drift. During that time, I was able to listen to the various types of birds around as well as the trickling of water. I personally found all of it very calming. I was able to just enjoy nature. At points I was also able to snap some pictures. I found every twist and turn of the river stunning and took many pictures. All in all, I was able to fully enjoy nature today because I could hear everything going on and absorb everything completely. I cannot wait to go back to the river and experience it all again.

Included Below is My Writing Piece of the day

Take gallons and gallons of water with speckles of fish

And put them into a curved path.

Mix mud, sand, and rocks

With the paddles of an oncoming kayaker

Until combined.

Drop in some of your sunglasses

That you lost on your last trip

Mixed with your hopes to find them once again.

Let all of the ingredients sit

In an oven of your relaxation and calmness

Until the rivers’ currents run and do not stop.

Once the river runs, sprinkle in lush vegetation

And more wildlife than imaginable.

Sit back and enjoy your river

With a side of contentedness.
