Water Day: Day 3

Writer's picture: Camryn VCamryn V

Today consisted of many lessons on water. Not just water, but what happens to it when we don’t take care of it as well as how experts know when something is wrong with the water. To start off this process of learning about water, my group traveled to a truck where the workers who drive it also drive robots. These people direct robots into pipes around Dayton to make sure everything is running well and allow other water testers and engineers to see into these tiny pipes. We then went to the water mobile where we learned about Dayton’s history and how water is cleaned and treated to come to us to drink. The water mobile was something I had visited before, but this time around I was really inclined to learn more about what all of it really meant. I feel as though because now I am older, I am able to really understand the capacity of which all of this is and how pollution impacts other people.

Throughout the rest of the morning, we mainly continued to learn about water testing, what goes into our water, what a watershed was, what should go back into the ecosystem and what shouldn’t, and much more about our city and our water. While I learned a lot of new terms and information about Dayton’s water, I also learned about how much I really care about the environment and how it is impacted by people. I may not go into a career for it like the people we met today, but I’m still going to try and make sure that we are leaving our environment better than we have found it. It is really important to be a good citizen and know about the impact that throwing a water bottle into a river has on other people. Overall, I found that the environment being taken care of is a big deal and that when our water is clean, it may help me live deliberately by being able to enjoy nature.

Showcased Under this picture is today's Writing Piece. It mainly talked about a river, where it comes from, and all the pieces that make the river a river. For this piece, we got to work with our groups to create one unified piece. I really enjoyed creating this poem because of that.

The River, flowing and free

That held all the water, clear and cold

Where the fish, vibrant and active, swam all day

And the sand, tan and grainy, is river’s foundation

With the mud, damp and squishy, helping to build the solid ground

And the rocks, strong and rough, added the texture to river

With trees, bold and firm, adding the protection

And the hills, tall and wide, that caught the water and sent it back to the

River, flowing and free
